Civil War Historical Marker for Logan County

THIS JUST IN!!   We are about half-way there on raising money for the historical marker! Any contributions, no matter how small, add up quickly and get us closer to the establishment of the memorial marker. For more information, read on…

The Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial has awarded a matching grant to place a historical marker near the site at the corner of Airport Road and Highway 22.   The grant requires a matching fund of eleven hundred dollars.  A committee has been appointed by the Paris Area Chamber of Commerce to, not only raise the matching funds, but to coordinate the Sesquicentennial activities for north Logan County.  Committee members include Joyce Friddle, Linda Hamilton, Ty Varnell, Glenn Gilbreath, or Curtis Varnell.

Donations of any amount can be made by contacting one of the committee members, leaving the donation with the Chamber of Commerce, or by making a deposit at First National Bank of Paris to the Civil War Memorial Fund.

Plans include dedicating the site this fall, developing a historical CD about the area and staging a remembrance and reenactment during Frontier Days 2013 commemorating  the 150th anniversary of the battle.

The Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Civil War in Arkansas by sanctioning events, encouraging research and education programs related to Civil War Arkansas, and preserving the sites that witnessed the Civil War in Arkansas. The Civil War Sesquicentennial will be celebrated between 2011 and 2015.
