Paris Chamber Director Retires

It is with a heavy heart that this web reports the retirement of Linda Hixson, Director of the Paris Chamber of Commerce.

On Friday, October 25, 2013, a letter was released to the Chamber Members…

Dear Members,

On Tuesday evening at the regular scheduled meeting of the Chamber Board of Directors, I submitted my resignation as Executive Director of the Paris Area Chamber of Commerce.
I am RETIRING from Public Service effective November 8, 2013.  I will see the Chamber through some of the upcoming events (Commissioners meeting & Banquet on November 13 and the Christmas Lighting Ceremony and Entertainment on Saturday, November 30) as I feel it would be very difficult for an interim or a new director or the Board members to complete those events. I will not, however,  be in the office on a full time basis after November 8.
I want to thank the Executive Board and Board Members as well as the general membership, the City of Paris and Logan County officials for the wonderful years of support everyone has given to me since I took the Directorship in July of 2007.  The Chamber has accomplished many good things during this time, and I am proud to have had a small part in those good things.
Our community is well served by the Chamber, its members and Board of Directors.  Our Chamber does as much, if not more, than most of the larger Chambers of Commerce in the state and certainly in our Region,  and I know that the future will hold many more successes as you all continue to build on the foundation that has been laid during the past 68 years of its existence here in Paris!
Thanks to all of you for giving me the opportunity to play a small part in the successes that have been realized in the past 6 years!
My very best and warmest regards to you all.
Linda
We shall miss her vitality, enthusiasm and energy in the promotion of Paris, Arkansas. I  have always enjoyed visiting with Linda and learning from her immeasurable guidance.

God be with you, Linda, we shall miss you greatly. May your life’s successes follow you on all your paths to the future

This just in from Tonya Varnell, Director of Communications & PR, Paris School District

It’s time to start planning for our “Keep Paris Beautiful” clean up event this spring! Last year, with the help of several student groups, staff members and community leaders we were able to plant 27 trees at the Wood Street Park, clean up Veteran’s City Park, ball fields, PES and PMS campuses, fairgrounds and stretch of hwy 22 in front of fairgrounds/airport and do some landscaping work around the superintendent’s office

I would like to have more volunteers this year so we are able to complete a few more projects, maybe on a grander scale. If you would like to participate, please let me know asap. Let me know if March 30th or April 20th would work best for you. Also, please feel free to shoot me an email with any suggestions for the event! Thanks to everyone that helped out last year and I look forward to working with you to help our community look its best!
